Concrete sleeper walls
Our main event. Plain grey concrete sleepers in galvanised posts. Strong, clean and low maintenance for garden terraces, driveways, cut-and-fill blocks and boundary walls.
A retaining wall is doing a job every single day: holding back tonnes of soil and everything the rain puts behind it. That is why we build ours out of concrete. Steel-reinforced concrete sleepers slot into galvanised steel posts that are drilled deep and set in concrete footings, so the wall is anchored below the ground, not just sitting on it.
Behind the wall we lay ag-drain and drainage gravel, so water moves through and away instead of pushing on the sleepers. It is the part nobody sees and the reason the wall is still straight in twenty years.
Concrete sleeper first, but we build the wall that suits your block, your budget and the look you want.
Our main event. Plain grey concrete sleepers in galvanised posts. Strong, clean and low maintenance for garden terraces, driveways, cut-and-fill blocks and boundary walls.
The warmth of timber with none of the rot. Textured, coloured concrete sleepers that look like hardwood and last like concrete.
Treated pine sleeper walls for lower walls, garden edges and budgets where timber makes sense. Built with the same care: proper posts, proper drainage.
Need privacy on top of a level change? We build the retaining wall and run the fence straight up from it, in the one job, with the one crew.
Low sleeper walls that turn a slope into usable garden, edge a lawn or frame a pool area. Small walls get the same footings and drainage as big ones.
Old timber wall leaning, rotting or collapsed? We pull it out, take it away and rebuild in concrete so you are not doing it again.
As a general rule in Queensland, retaining walls under one metre that are clear of buildings and boundaries can be built without council approval. Walls over one metre, walls close to a boundary or a building, or walls carrying a surcharge like a driveway usually need engineered drawings and building approval.
Every block is different, so we look at yours before we quote and tell you straight what is needed. If engineering is required we build to the engineer's drawings and coordinate the certification, so the wall is compliant and you are covered when you sell.
Post holes drilled with our auger to the depth the wall height calls for, then posts set plumb in concrete.
Steel-reinforced concrete sleepers, not timber that rots from the back the day it goes in.
Ag-drain pipe and drainage gravel behind the wall, wrapped in geofabric, so water gets out and pressure never builds.
String-lined, laser-levelled and checked as it goes up. A wall you want to look at, not just hide behind plants.
It depends on the length, the height, the access and what has to come out first. Concrete sleeper walls cost more than timber up front and a lot less over their life, because you build them once. The quickest way to get a real number is a site visit: Dan will measure up and give you a written quote with no obligation.
Often not for walls under one metre that are clear of buildings and boundaries, but walls over a metre, walls near a boundary, or walls holding up a driveway or structure usually need engineering and building approval. We will tell you exactly what applies to your block when we quote.
Timber sleepers rot, warp and get eaten by termites, especially in our climate, and most timber walls are being replaced within 10 to 15 years. Concrete sleepers are steel-reinforced and do not rot, so the wall you pay for now is the wall you keep. If you like the timber look, timber-look concrete sleepers give you both.
Yes. We build walls and fences, so we can run the fence posts straight up from the retaining wall posts or set them behind the wall, and do the whole thing in one job.
Every wall we build gets ag-drain pipe and drainage gravel behind it, wrapped in geofabric so it does not clog with soil. Water pressure is what pushes walls over, so we take it away.
Most residential walls are done in a few days once we start, depending on length, height and access. We give you a realistic timeframe with the quote and keep you posted as we go.
Yes. We pull out failed timber, block or rock walls, take the material away and rebuild in concrete.
